A Little Disorientated

Kani pushed open the door to her house and stepped inside. Leaving the lights off she shut the door and stepped farther into the pitch black house. A meow echoed around the empty room and Oblivion weeved herself around Kani's ankles. She picked the cat up and sighed.

I don't know what to do...I shouldn't have trusted Shukaku that easily. Well it's better then him mentioning it right then, or else Gaara would have certanly known. There's a chance that Shakaku won't tell.

Kani laughed. "A tiger can't change it's stripes," she said outloud.

"And what do you mean by that.." Gaara spoke from behind her, having opened the unlocked door. He knew he shouldn't have followed her, but he couldn't help it. Half of him was overly worried and afraid, while the other half was incredibly pissed and disappointed. He didn't know which side to choose, and so he merely followed her and suspected the unexpected. He didn't even apologize for stalking her, or even for walking into her house.

Kani spun around in alarm and Oblivion hissed in her arms. "W-what are you talking about?" she asked in a shaky voice.

(I just realized that her statement can refer to both her and Shukaku...depending on how you look at it. Huh...)

((ooc: Lmao I've never heard that saying before ))

He stared blankly at the cat, his voice monotonic as he spoke. "'A tiger can't change it's stripes'... I'm asking what you meant by that.."

(basicly it means that something/someone that's born with something cant change. tiger's not only have striped fur but skin as well so they cant change it.)

Kani stared at him and blinked once. "I...was just talking about a friend of mine," she lied. She said it blankly, no emotion whatsoever, so it would be harder to tell.

((ooc: Ohh.. wow, that's interesting O_o))

"Oh?" He gave her a blank stare, the first blank stare he had given for a while, probably. "And who is this tiger friend of yours?"

"They aren't a tiger Gaara..." she said simply. "And...it's just someone I met while out wandering..." She looked away from him and stepped farther into the darkened house, heading in the direction of the basement.

"Hmm.." He watched her, taking a few steps. His expression was suddenly a mix between anxious and somewhat depressed. "Kani? Can I.. ask you something..?"

Kani stopped and nodded. "What is it Gaara?" she asked. She didn't want to turn around, just incase he saw something to show that she was lying.

His monotonic voice had changed to a saddened one, and he hesitated for a second. "Well.. I.. was wondering.."

'This isn't going to work.. I can't confront her.. and I can't just let it be.. what do I do..' Gaara thought, frowning and looking down. Shukaku gave a menacing laugh. 'I've got something you might be interested in. How about we lock up your emotions, that might work..'

'Can you seriously do that..?' He asked, and Shukaku gave a short 'eh'. Maybe.. we should try. It's sort of a last second thing, but we should try..'

'Oh ho ho, little miss 'I don't want to listen to you' is crawling on his knees and begging for mercy, huh? Well, Gaara, I'll tell you this, I can't promise you'll like it. But since you insist, I can't be blamed. Heh heh heh..' Gaara looked up at Kani, wondering if he should regret this or not. It was too late, anyway, and his eyes became fully white, his mouth opening slightly.

((ooc: Mwuahaha.. sudden last minute idea O_o))

Kani turned her head to look at him when he didn't reply. "Gaara?" she asked. "What do you want?"

(wow...interesting)

"I.." His voice was higher than usual, and his body was shaking. Suddenly, his body went incredibly still, and his eyes went back to normal, save for the fact that they were much more dull now. His voice was a deep, emotionless monotonic, and his face was flawlessly blank.

"I want to know why you lied."

Kani stared at him. "What are you talking about Gaara?" she asked. "I haven't lied about anything..."

"Your lying again. You love to lie, don't you." He said, staring blankly at her. "I realize that you aren't the only one who has lied, Kani. I've lied as well. I've lied a lot."

She was confused beyond belief. She hadn't lied about anything, how could she? She didn't say anything that she would lie about except when he asked if she was ok. About half the time that was a lie, sure, but didn't everyone do that?

"Gaara, I'm confused. You've told me that before, that you lie. And sure I lie sometimes...about trivial things..." She paused. "Is there anything that you're refering to in particular?"

"You did more during those four years then I knew. You may thank Shukaku, and maybe you shouldn't trust him next time." He didn't even twitch, seeming like he didn't care at all. "Your not exactly alive, so why would you care about me, anyway. I've lied to you, too, Kani. I never wanted to do any of this in the first place, lie to you about us, destroy my emotions so I could finally confront you about it. Now that I've done it, I realize that since I'm not feeling anything, it's incredibly easy. I don't love you, Kani. I did at one point, but that was four years ago. Four years is a long time. I'm sorry that I led you on all this time, I hadn't meant any harm. I was merely trying to protect you from being hurt. But now I understand, that's probably not possible for you, anyway."

The words 'not exactly alive' rang through her head over and over again. "You..." She swallowed and looked away. He told...I told you not to trust him so easily You're right... "He told you..." she said after a couple minutes. "Shukaku told you...about what happened..."

"Yes, he did. He's very untrustworthy, Kani. I didn't think you'd fall under his trap, but I guess so. He knows that your unable to do anything to him, in fact, he's talking about how your powerless because if you tried to hurt him you'd be hurting me. Isn't he the greatest, don't you think. Would you like to tell me the full story about what happened.."

Kani growled and spun around to fully stare at him. Oblivion hissed in her arms. "Why don't you just ask him then!" she yelled. "He'd gladly tell you!" She glared at him. "And right now I don't really-" She shook her head and hissed under her breath.

Kani, I know you want to hurt Shukaku but you have to remember who he's in. I don't care right now Mei, I really dont. I cant take this, I want them both out!

"All I understand from him at the moment is that your a zombie." His eyes turned to the cat in her arms, staring blankly at it as well. He could tell that she didn't like him much, or sensed something strange on him, or something along those lines. The emotional Gaara might have reacted to that.

'If I could still feel, I'd be aching from the fact that I know I'm destroying ties with Kani by my behaviour, not to mention help from you. Heh, oh well. You don't need your emotions holding you back. Not to mention this girl. Best thing is to get rid of her, then..? You know it. Sometimes I fail to understand you, Shukaku.. Yeah, well sometimes I really don't get you either, Gaara. But I like what happens when you act like this. It's fun.. heh.' Gaara looked back to Kani, something in the back of his mind telling him he was stupid for ever listening to Shukaku. It was probably the part of him that he locked away and will never listen to again. "Isn't everything just wonderful.. wouldn't you say, hm? I wouldn't be surprised if you tried to kill me now."

Kani narrowed her eyes. "What the hell are you talking about. Yeah I'm...a zombie...or whatever you want to call me, but why would I kill you? Where the hell did you even get that conclusion!?"

He continued to stare at her, Shukaku still laughing in his mind. "Because I know your secret, because I'm being rude, because you hate Shukaku, because I suddenly changed, maybe even because your merely following orders."

Kani stared at him. "No one gave me orders to kill anyone if I told them my secret. If that were true then I wouldn't have risked telling Shukaku in the first place."

If those were my orders then Ich and Asuran would be dead...

"And I'm not going to kill you just because you're being rude or because I hate Shukaku or because you're suddenly acting all weird." She sighed and closed her eyes. "Why did you come here Gaara? Did you want to make sure that what Shukaku told you was true...or did you come here maybe to kill me? No one likes abnomalities, so maybe you came here to get rid of me." She looked up at him, her eyes fierce and dangerous.

"I don't think you should have trusted him in the first place." He shook his head slowly. "And I did not come here to kill you, nor to make sure Shukaku spoke the truth. In all honesty, I can't remember why I came here. I knew a few minutes ago, but now that things are settled with Shukaku, I can't understand what I was here for."

'Aw, come'on, why not kill her? It would be fun, and you haven't killed anything in a long time! No. What, are you afraid? Is she too important to you?You shouldn't care anymore. I need to keep my position as Kazekage, and there is no point in killing her. She is not a threat. Your no fun..'

Kani glared at him. "Then why are you still here? Just..." She shook her head and turned away. "Just leave. I don't have time for this!" She turned the doorhandle to the basement and pull the door open.
