Moonlit Night

She leaned back away from him a bit, just to get a good look at his eyes. "What do you really... In all the world... What do you want?"

"I.." He stared at her, squinting slightly. "I want.."

He shook his head softly, frowning. "Why do you care?"

She almost laughed at his response. "Why do I care? Why do I care?! Gaara-kun, you know that's like asking a genius why he thinks, like asking a track star why he runs, like asking a ninja why he defends his village. It's an impossible answer. We do because we do." She smiled gleefully at him.

"Well, why do you want to know? Is that an impossible answer? All you have to do is explain the necessary need for you to know." He stared at her, still frowning.

His seriousness knocked her down a tone and she frowned at his response. "If I knew what you wanted I could give it to you. Then you'd be happy and maybe stop blaming yourself for everything."

ooc: Sometimes her logic doesn't work.. -.-

"I don't want it given to me. I want to earn it for myself." He turned his head, glaring at the sky. "I want one thing, though. Just answer one question for me, I'd really like to know.."

Neko slightly glanced at the sky, wondering if there was actually something he was looking at or if it was just dramatic. Finding nothing, her eyes shifted to him again. "Wh-What?" She stuttered accidentally, almost choking on her own air. "You know a I'll answer anything for you if I know it."

"Would you tell me what you think of me?" He looked at her, his face in a softer expression now. "I was so kind as to tell you what I think, may I please know what it is for you?"

"Haven't I told you before?" She cocked her head to the side. "You're my best friend in the world." Then she smiled, not really understanding what he was asking for.

"Do you not remember what it is that I said...?" He frowned. "I mean.. I'd like to know what you think of me, as 'more than friend-wise'?"

Because I realized that Gaara probably wouldn't understand what he was saying O_o))

Her words came out slowly, almost like she had to think about each one before she said it. "It's not a matter of what I think about you, but more a matter of what you do to my thoughts.." Then she paused. "But I don't think I can tell you because I usually talk about things that people don't understand and I wouldn't want you to not understand and then feel bad."

"Why can't you tell me?" He asked, tilting his head a bit. "It took me an incredible amount of time just to say my part, it should be easier for you, shouldn't it? Maybe not.. Eh.. I don't know. Whatever, you don't need to tell me, I was just asking."

She looked disappointed and poked his chest. "You don't try very hard. Maybe you should make a new goal for yourself to be persistant." She faintly smiled. "You'd probably want to hear what I have to say, but I'm scared you'll just get even more confused and hate yourself for not being 'smart' enough to understand what I'm saying, even though it would just be the differences in our minds. Unfortunatly, I'm still not sure if you'd want to hear my recolection of it anyways. Since I've never spoken it out loud, it might drag on. I don't know.."

"You know I'd stand here for years waiting. Because I've done it before." He looked at her, no emotion on his face. "But it's your choice if you want to act sooner or later. Would you like me to leave you here alone with your thoughts for a bit?"

"Thoughts with no action are pointless. I have had four years to think, now is the time for action." She picked up both his hands and held them in hers, staring at them.

"My mind..." She began. "Is like a maze. A huge, gigantic maze. And covering every wall of the maze are little screens. These screens show thoughts, memories, anything. Sometimes, if I stare at one screen, it will transport me to another screen somewhere else in the maze, this is how my thoughts connect. One screen takes me to another, one thought takes me to another. But always, always, I'm trying to find the way out. Find the end of the maze. But it never appears. I walk and walk. Walking forever, trying to find the way out."

This was when she stopped and shot her head up at him, gazing. "That's how it is... Unless I'm near you. When I'm around you, even if we're not talking, it's like it doesn't matter anymore. The maze doesn't exist and I'm just walking. I don't care where I'm going, I don't care where my thoughts bring me. I have no need to get away from the maze because it disappears, and I walk on nothing. Blankness. But... That's when I'm most happy. I don't care about finding the way out and I just live on."

With that she smiled. "You walk. I walk. You breathe. I breathe. When you died, I died too. Nothing was real. Nothing had a purpose." Tears rolling down her cheeks from remembrance quickly dried up. "Everything was a maze and I was trying to find a way out. That's why..."

She almost jumped into him, holding him in an embrace. "That's why I think I love you."

The whole explanation caught him slightly off guard, leaving him wide eyed. Without a second thought, he wrapped his arms around her and stared off at whatever his eyes were looking at, he wasn't paying much attention to it.

"I'm sorry I put you through so much when I made that horrible decision.."

"It doesn't matter. You thought you were doing the right thing for us all, your heart was in the right place. And besides, that was then, this is now." She paused. "What will happen now?"

ooc: we are so poetic, eh? I never thought I was but look at us! Getting all thoughtful and teary-eyed.

"Mm, I suppose.. but then never really changed. It's still there.." He shrugged, then pulled away slightly. "What happens.. hm.. you know what?"

He gave a smirk. "I'm not really sure."

She shrugged. "I think you need to read a few more books. Or maybe I should read a few more books.. Should we go to the library?"

"Not at the moment.. maybe later."

"Hm.." She blinked a few times, thinking. "So then what do you want to do?"

"I want to try something.." He said, tilting his head slightly. "Something that we tried a while ago, in this very spot."

"In this very spot?" She questioned. "We've been here many times, what do you want to do that we've done before?"

"Is there one thing you can think of?"
