Confrontations

Gaara looked up to the sky as him and Kani had walked out of the hospital. It was a mix of orange and red, the sunset glowing along the horizon. He gave a low sigh. "It's going to be a lovely night.."

Kani looked at the sun and smiled, crossing her arms. "Yeah...it is."

He turned, taking her hand and manipulating the sand beneath their feet, making it bring them to the top of the canyon. Once they got there, he jumped off his sand and onto the canyon top, still holding her hand as she was still on the sand, waiting for her to jump off it as well.

"Thought I would give us a better view.."

((ooc: But actually, I had just realized that I put this topic in the canyon without them actually being on the canyon, so yeah ))

Kani smiled and stepped off the sand. "Thanks," she said quietly. She smiled and looked at the sun. "The sun alone is really pretty."

The sand dropped after Kani walked off it. Gaara stared at the sky, inhaling deeply. "Yes.. it seems that the most beautiful things in life can be incredibly painful.."

Kani looked over at him. "Why is the sun painful?" she asked.

He gave a slight smile, looking over to her as well. "Do you believe the average person would stare directly into the sun? If they had, they would be blinded by it's rays. Brightness is painful to the eyes, as most beautiful things are, though, for different reasons."

Kani stared at him, not fully comprehending. But she didn't want to appear stupid so she didn't say anything. She looked back to the sun, but slightly away so she wouldn't get blinded like Gaara mentioned.

He turned his head again, his face directed to the sun, and closed his eyes. "It's alright if you don't understand, not many people would get what I meant by that."

Kani nodded and crossed her arms. The sun started to go down and it was starting to become dark.

He opened his eyes and stared at the sky. His mind raced with thoughts of mistakes and bad decisions, problems and what their solutions could be. His head began lowering slightly as his thoughts traveled to what he should do, and how he was going to try making it possible that whatever he did would not end in hate or misery. Which, he believed, was bound to happen, even if he did try.

"How are you feeling..?"

Kani shrugged. "I've been better, but I'm fine," she replied. She sensed that the question had another meaning, but she wasn't sure so she didn't say anything.

"Hm.." He looked down, over the canyon. "One day, I'm not going to be able to protect anyone."

Kani looked over at him, confused. "What are you talking about Gaara?"

He gave the slightest smile, glancing at her through the corner of his eye. "There are many reasons to it. I'll screw up one day, Shukaku will terrorize the village and I will be exiled, the Akatsuki will come kill me, so many reasons. I'm surprised I'm still Kazekage."

Kani raised an eyebrow.

"You're Kazekage because you care about your people and you'll do anything to protect them. And Shakaku will never take you over, never."

She paused.

"The Akatsuki will never find you. They'll be dead within the next couple months if I have anything to do with it."

"It's not impossible." He said, his smile fading as he turned his head away. "Shukaku is getting closer each day.. the Akatsuki won't stop to you. If you have anything to do with it, you'll be dead."

Kani laughed harshly. "Neko wants to help to, and so does Raku and Ich. We'll stop them," she said. She planted her hands on her hips. "And Shakaku will not be able to do anything. You're too strong, you won't let him take over."

"Neko wants to help? And Raku.. Raku is strong.. I don't know much about Ichi.." He glared, still looking away from her. "Four against ten S-rank ninja.. your all going to die."

Kani sighed angrily. "We're not stupid Gaara. We have a plan. Several actually. We've laid it all out. No one's going to die." Either that or you're all going to die because you're going to try to save each other.

He didn't answer, only because he didn't want to be angry. He knew they were't stupid, he never expected them to just up and run at the entire Akatsuki without thinking it through. But he knew too well that the Akatsuki wasn't going to be destroyed that easily. And he didn't believe that they would all survive through the encounter, either.

"You might take down one of them.. or even two.. but your not going to beat the Akatsuki."

Kani laughed. "That's what everybody says," she said. "No one thinks we'll do it. But we'll show them." Her eyes shinned with determination.

He hadn't realized it, but he'd been biting the inside of his lip the whole time. He put his hand to his mouth, touching his bottom lip as he turned his head and looked at Kani. 'I wonder if she's ever talked with Uzumaki..'

"I.." He shook his head, giving a sigh and taking one step, looking off the edge of the canyon.

Kani raised an eyebrow. "Yes?" she asked. She sounded a little annoyed.

He closed his eyes. "My apologies."

A small smile found it's way to his face, and he tilted his head so he could look at her. "I must be such a pest."
