What Am I Doing?

"Gaara?" she asked. "Gaara...a-are you ok?"

She thought that he might be dreaming, but she wasn't sure. How could someone's dreams make the person look so concerned.

"I'm fine.. really.. he's gone.. stop worrying.." He exhaled deeply. "I don't know.. what you mean.. ask again.."

Kani sighed and closed her eyes. He was just having a dream and nothing could hurt him while he was asleep. Well, she hoped not.

"No.. don't.. please.. don't.. I'm sorry.. really.. really.. sorry.." His hand lifted to his chest and he clutched the blood stained clothes covering it. "I know.. you hate me.. but.. it doesn't.. need to be like this.."

Kani opened her eyes and looked at him.

"No one hates you Gaara," she whispered. "No one hates you."

"Stop lying.." He shook his head vigorously. "Stop.. lying.. to me.. yo-"

His sentence was cut off, and his face was blank for a moment. Then, his heart beat quickened, he began sweating, and his teeth were clenched, his face either enraged, or in pain. Or even a mix of both. "What.. I thought.. no.."

"Gaara, I'm not lying," she said. "Gaara. You have to wake up right now."

She reached out a shaking hand and shook him lightly.

"Gaara, wake up!"

"Heh.. heh heh heh.." The laugh was strange, but he still hadn't woken up, his face turning demented. "Dimwit.. your stupid to think.. anyone would need you."

His face turned back to it's pained expression. "N-no.. you.. your dead.. go away!!"

"I'm not going anywhere." His head turned to face the opposite direction. "Your a fool."

He turned his head back again, his face pained and his voice pleading. "Kani.. please.. help me.."

(( now i have to think of how to help him...hmmm... ))

"Gaara, it's ok, I-I'm right here."

She wrapped her arms around him in a hug.

"You're staying right here," she whispered harshly. "He's dead, it's only you now. Shakaku is dead."

His expression was still pained, but his body had loosened up and his breathing went back to it's normal pace. His eyes opened slightly, and he blinked, his eyes shifting, looking at his surroundings. His expression now looked slightly confused.

"What happened.."

((ooc: And it worked ))

Kani took her other arm from around him, so she only had an arm around his shoulder to make sure he didn't fall over.

"I don't know Gaara...you fell asleep and then started to talk. And then you and Shakaku started talking but then...now you've woken up."

His eyes widened briefly, then he moved his head and looked at her. "Hn.. that was.. strange.."

She nodded, not knowing what to say.

"I-"

She cut herself off, not knowing what she was going to say. A couple spots flashed across her vision, reminding her that her body was fighting against her stayed concious.

He moved so that he wasn't leaning on her, putting a hand to his head. "I'm sorry.. that was sudden.."

He took her hand, using his other to make a hand sign. "I'll get us out of here.. okay..?"

Kani put a hand over his.

"Are you sure Gaara? You aren't looking that great."

"If I can atleast get us to a village.." He turned his head and looked at her. "I could use-"

He stopped, his eyes wide as he remembered where they were and looked up to the dark sky, rain still pouring. It hit him in the eye and he looked away, shaking his head and blinking. He looked to Kani again, frowning. "It's raining.."

Kani nodded.

"We're in the Rain Forest...it's been raining since we got here."

He grunted. "I can't use sand here.."

He raised his hand, watching as, slowly, mud began raising from the ground. When it finally reached his hand, he was panting from the effort it had taken to actually manipulate it. "Not.. at all.."

Kani nodded, looking at him.

"A-are you ok Gaara?"

"I'm fine.." He nodded, curling his hand and letting the mud slide from it. "It just.. takes more energy to do that than I have at the moment.."

He sighed. "This is.. really inconvenient.. the best option right now is to summon what energy I have left to bring us to a hospital.. at least, if it took too much, than I'd be the one to.."

Kani jumped up and shook her head to clear the dizziness.

"No! I won't let you!" she exclaimed, tears coming to her eyes. "I wont..."

He looked to her again. "Kani.. I'm not going to let you suffer any longer."

She shook her head.

"I'm fine! I really am!"

She looked at him, her eyes pleading.

"Please...don't hurt yourself even more..."

He looked away, frowning. "This was all my fault. I will take responsibility for your health and whatever happens to me doesn't matter anymore."

Kani shook her head, some tears falling.

"N-no! Gaara-"

She opened her eyes.

"I'm not going to let you. If you do..."

She bit her lip.

"I'm not going to let you kill yourself. This wasn't your fault!"
