What Am I Doing?

"Get away from me!!" He shouted, his voice turning angry and a low growl rumbling in his throat. His movements were swift as he got to his feet and into a defensive stance, a few feet away from her. He raised his hands to his head once again, holding it as he tried to calm himself. "I said go, now!!"

Kani jumped up and stared at him.

"I am not going Gaara!" she shouted. "You have to calm down," she half pleaded.

"Go!!!" He growled, slowly lifting his head to glared at her, his eyes black, the sea green color turning yellow with a diamond pattern. The veins seemed to convulse, and he grunted as he shut his eyes again, beginning to pull on his hair once again. "Just.. go..!!"

Kani took a step foward, reaching out to him but then she dropped it and stared at him.

"Gaara...I'm not leaving," she said quietly.

"Nhg.." His hands dropped from his head to his sides as he slowly stood straight, his eyes closed and his vein covered face seemingly blank. He opened his eyes, glaring at her as a demented smirk curled up on his face. "Heh.. heh heh.."

He ran to her swiftly, knocking her into a tree and pinning her there, the rain dripping down his face and washing the blood away. "You.. should have left when your dear friend told you to.. but, you decided you'd stay for a bit of fun, knowing that soon enough I'd be out for you to play with. Thanks, it's been a while since I had this much control over the nuisance."

Kani growled and stared at him.

"You should know that I'm not afraid, and I won't fight. I wouldn't endanger Gaara's life to protect my own. Go ahead and kill me, it won't do anything."

Her mouth turned up into a demonic smile.

"Heh.. feisty." His demented smirk never faltered. "I'm not going to kill you, it's too much fun to feel the weak struggles of the nuisance. I'll merely torture you slowly, so that he will struggle right to the point of no return, if you know what I mean."

Kani growled again, her smile never failing.

"Gaara can beat you anyday," she hissed. "You're nothing but a voice in the back of his head. He can beat you any day."

"Heh.. right." He chuckled demonicly. "If he loses to me, he never comes back. If I lose, I just sit and wait until next time. I've learned a few things that will easily weaken him, and if I continue with what I've been doing, soon enough this body will be mine. His struggles will be useless."

He leaned his distorted face closer to hers. "He's never coming back for you."

Kani let out a laugh.

"Doesn't matter whether he comes back for me or not. That's not what I want."

She smiled somewhat normaly.

"I want him back for himself, because I can't stand what you're doing to him."

"Hah hah hah!" He laughed, his face inches from hers. "It wont end well for you then, love. I can already taste the freedom."

Kani stared at him, her face blank with no emotion.

"I don't care if I die. I've died before. This time I probably won't come back, but I don't really mind."

She stared at him, hoping that Gaara was at least trying to get Shakaku under control. Not for her sake, but for his.

"Like I said, Kani, I'm not going to kill you. At least, not yet. You'll know at that moment that your friend is gone for good as well." He snickered, his eyes filled with malice. "And at that moment, will I have my freedom at last. With no interferences."

His smirk suddenly disappeared, and he snarled. "No, the blond ones won't come for you, fool. What? No, they won't. Not only do they not know, they probably don't care enough to bother coming here to rescue either of you, so be quiet!"

His demented smirk returned. "Sorry about that, you know how it is with nuisances and what not."

(blonde ones? you mean Neko? wait...what?)

Kani stared at him, face blank, trying to understand who they were talking about.

Blonde ones...blonde...CRAP! NEKO!

She forced herself to calm down.

No...it'll be fine...Neko won't have to get involved in this. It's someone else...

Kani smirked, banishing her unwelcome thoughts to the back of her head.

"It won't matter wether you kill me...If Gaara's not here then there's nothing for me to be here for..."

((ooc: Lmao the only two that ever really interfered with Shukaku, other than Gaara himself, was Neko and Naruto.. Lol NN O_o))

"Then that is your problem, hun." He laughed. "Honestly, I would kill you in a second. At the moment, I'm merely using you. You should know this."

(oh...yeah...i dont count naruto cause it would be weird if YOU were all like 'and naruto poofed and saved the day' and Neko isn't able to get on so...we screwed! haha!)

Kani rolled her eyes.

"I kinda got that," she said blankly.

She looked around.

"So are you just going to hold me up to a tree for a million years?"

"Sure, why not?" He grinned, then grabbed her shoulder, pulling her away from the tree and whipping her away from it, towards another. "Is that better for you?"

(never mind, never mind. just joking)

Kani landed and skidded backwards, staring at him all the while.

"I don't want to hurt you Gaara..." she said quietly.

"Don't worry, this isn't Gaara. I thought you would have known that by now." He snickered, balling his hands into fists and getting into a fighting stance. "You afraid to get a little mean with me just because I look like your friend at the moment? Well.. your friend with a few more distorted features, of course."

Kani shook her head.

"I know who I'm talking to at the moment, but I also know that my friend is still here and he's fighting. I don't want to hurt him."

In the back of her head she tried to think of ideas where she could protect herself but not hurt Gaara.

Maybe...maybe if I did something to switch that...that could work. I dont care what happens to me, I'm bringing Gaara back.

"Hah hah hah!!" He laughed dementedly. His eyes lit up with enthusiasm as he took a few steps toward her. "Dear, there is good news for you. Your friend is gone, you don't need to hold back anymore."

Kani growled.

"I don't believe you!" she shouted.

Then she did a series of handsigns.

"Inner Demon Jutsu."

(kani's inner demon goes into the cut that Gaara inflicted on himself *when he was hitting his head on the ground* but instead of going into his head and uprouting, she uprouted all the good memories. Stuff when him, Swiss, Neko, Hitori and Kani were all friends. happy memories!!)

Kani tried to keep on her feet, twisting a jutsu around wasn't as easy as she thought it would be, and she already felt a little faint from chakra loss.

"Hn.." He shut his eyes, slowly raising his hands to his head. He felt himself growl in frustration as he seen the many memories; the dance, the time in the Hidden Ember Village, times in the Ichiraku Ramen shop, the time they laid on the roof top, all the many times with Neko. He pulled his head back, letting out an enraged, demonic scream. He gasped, grunting as he shook his head around. "Get... OUT!!"

He dropped to his knees, pulling his hair for probably the fifth time that day. His grunts turned into whimpers, and he found himself sobbing quietly.

The minute he collapsed was the minute that Kani let go. For a second her vision was white but then it cleared and she fell backwards onto her butt, her head swimming. She put a hand to her head and saw Gaara a couple feet away from her, sobbing.

"Gaara?" she asked, disoriented.

She shook her head and slowly stood up and walked to him, before dropping to the ground.

"Gaara? Are you ok?" she asked quietly.

"Kani.." He continued to sob quietly, keeping his head down so she couldn't see his face. "I'm sorry.. I'm so sorry.."

His sobs slowly turned into demented laughter. "I'm so sorry that you fell for this."

His head shot up, and his face hadn't changed. He put his hands on the ground in front of him, using them to flip himself and slide away from her, one hand on the ground to stop himself. He grinned, chuckling. "I thought you wouldn't give up so easily.. I suppose I was wrong, then, weakling."
